Headphones Plugged But Why Doesn't My Sound Go Out?

The main reason we encounter such a problem is that the drivers on our computer are not up-to-date or the driver is not available on our computer. Of course, it may not be due to this problem alone. These; your headphone or microphone may not be working, your computer audio input and output card may not be working. Such problems can bring various errors and reflect sound problems to us. For this, we will try to solve the problem by telling you a few suggestions.

How to Fix Sound Problem?

In order to solve this error, we will try to solve the problem by mentioning a few suggestions.

1-) Update Audio Driver

We can solve the problem by first updating the microphone and then the speaker device.

Update Microphone Device

  • First, select Device Manager by pressing the "Windows+X" key.
  • On the screen that opens, expand the "Audio inputs and outputs" option.
  • Then right-click on the microphone device you are using and click "Update Driver".

  • Click on the "Browse drivers on my computer" option on the screen we encounter.

  • In the driver search screen that opens, we click on the "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" option.

  • On the screen we encounter, we select Audio Endpoint and click Next.

  • After this process, you will receive the following warning that it has been successfully completed. Then test your microphone to see if the issue persists.

Update Audio Driver

In this process, we will learn from which device your headset is connected and update it.

  • First of all, find out the device name of your connected headphones by clicking the sound icon in the lower right corner.

As we saw above, the name of the audio device I used was called "Headphones (High Definition Audio Device)". Let's update this driver together now. First of all, let's perform the same operations as above.

  • In the same way, press the "Windows+X" key and select Device Manager.
  • On the screen that opens, expand the "Audio inputs and outputs" option.
  • Then right click on the audio device you are using and click "Update Driver". (My audio device was called Headphones (High Definition Audio Device).)

  • Click on the "Browse drivers on my computer" option on the screen we encounter.
  • In the driver search screen that opens, we click on the "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" option in the same way.
  • On the screen we encounter, we select High Definition Audio Controller or Audio Endpoint and click Next.
  • After this operation, you will receive a warning that it has been successfully completed. Then test your headset to see if the issue persists.

2-) Check the Playback Devices

You have performed the above operations but if the problem persists, we need to check the playback devices.

  • First of all, right click on the sound icon in the lower right corner and click on "Sound Effect".

  • Click on the "Playback" menu at the top of the screen that opens.
  • If the Speaker option appears on the screen that opens, disable it and enable the headset you want to activate.

  • As you can see above, the speaker appears to be active. But the following "Headphones" device we have plugged in is not being seen effectively. For this, we need to disable the "Speaker" device and activate the "Headphones" device. To do this, right-click on the "Speaker" device and click "Disable".

  • By disabling the speaker device, we will activate our headset below. If our headset is not activated, right click on it and click "Set as default device".

After this process, you will now activate your headset and you will not encounter any problems.

3-) Update Your Drivers

Check if your audio and I/O drivers are up to date. For this;

  • Download and install Driver Booster.
  • Open the Driver Booster program.
  • Perform the scanning process by pressing the SCAN button on the screen that appears.

After the scan is finished, it will reveal various outdated drivers. Perform the update by selecting outdated drivers and restart your computer.
